Stop Policing How We Grieve Angus Cloud’s Death
Iremember the night news broke of the untimely death of Euphoria actor Angus Cloud (born Connor Angus Cloud Hickey).The nature of his death was still unknown (we have since learned he died of an already suspected overdose) but conversations were happening across the Euphoriaverse (and Euphoria subreddits) regardless.One of these convos was about how so many of us are “disrespectful” for discussing, or simply questioning, the future of the show.(Including the fate of his character Fezco and the connections he had with other characters.) I was one of those “disrespectful” people involved in those discussions and I’ve had a problem with this conversation in particular because it involves policing the grieving processes of multiple fans who are doing the most natural thing we can do right now — talk about the damn show that introduced us to the man we’re mourning in the first place.When Glee’s Cory Monteith died of a fatal overdose in 2013, fans of the show (me included) mourned the loss of Cory… but we also mourned the loss of his character Finn Hudson, as well. And why wouldn’t we? It was Cory who brought Finn to life. Cory’s unexpected death left fans wondering what would happen to the show and his character, along with the storylines connected to his character. Namely, the future of Rachel Berry (played by Lea Michele).
