The Truth America Doesn’t Want To Face
According to a study, only 1 out of 10 people bother to verify what they see on social media. Why? They trust their friends’ feeds as a reliable source of information. Even more alarming, 86% of readers rarely fact-check news stories and reports. A Gallup poll from this year showed that 52% of all Americans believe journalists don’t have their readers’ or viewers’ best interests at heart.Despite these staggering statistics, 61% of Americans still “Like,” “Share,” or comment on articles or content shared by their friends. So, with these stats in mind, let’s take a closer look at the Lincoln-Kennedy coincidences. Are they true? Half true? False? Luckily for 90% of you, I did some digging and separated fact from fiction.Lie: Kennedy was with/visited Marilyn Monroe one month before his death, and Lincoln visited Monroe, Maryland, one month before his assassination. Nope. First of all, Marilyn died a year before Kennedy. And there isn’t a city named Monroe in Maryland. Both were succeeded by VPs born 100 years apart. But to be exact, their respective birth dates are Andrew Johnson, December 29, 1808, and LBJ, August 27, 1908. Close enough? You decide. Both assassins were Southerner Sympathizers. This is a stretch. It is true Booth “Sympathized” for the South. However, he spent much of his life in the North and considered himself a Northerner. As for Kennedy’s assassin, Oswald was indeed born in the south, New Orleans, to be exact. But Oswald wasn’t a “Southerner” or “Northerner” due to the transient nature of his life.
