Vlad TV & The Perpetuated Obsession With Black Controversy
On September 29th, 2023, Duane Keith “Keefe D” Davis was taken into custody for his role in the death of the late Tupac Shakur. The arrest came after his home in Henderson, Nevada was raided by police this past July, looking for items “related to Shakur’s murder.” Davis, known as a member of the California-based Compton Crips gang, had previously discussed his involvement in the death of the late rapper on several occasions. In July 2018, Keefe D publicly confirmed his role in the killing, claiming he was in the vehicle with his nephew, Orlando Anderson, who was initially alleged to be the shooter. Davis refused to name the other assailants involved but he did confirm his nephew as the shooter, and stated that the murder was in response to a $1 million bounty by P. Diddy and retaliation for getting attacked earlier by Shakur at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. A majority of Davis’ public discussions were filmed on Vlad TV, an exclusive urban online news platform on YouTube. The modern wave of social media interviewers and personalities is often found to be catapulted by controversial fame. When YouTube personality, Kevin Samuels passed away last year in May, debatable conversations ensued around whether Samuels was widely against Black women or just adamantly in favor of Black men. While many will perhaps always hold critical perspectives of Samuels’ obsession with dehumanizing Black women for profit, it’s safe to say that at the very least, his platform, — controversial as they come, still somehow managed to align with Black men’s demand to be heard.
