Watching the MCU Feels Like Work Now

The MCU kicked off with Iron Man in 2008, a whole 15 years ago at this point. Iron Man launched the franchise with a bang, featuring Robert Downey Jr. as a fantastic Tony Stark that really embodied the character. It was a major success and was a fantastic start to the whole thing. I eagerly consumed much of the MCU as the movies came out, and I managed to see many of them in theaters for the first several years. It was great fun to watch them introduce and characterize these characters individually in their respective movies and then together in The Avengers, which I saw at a midnight showing on opening night. Each movie built on the prior one, with individual characters getting their own outings and the occasional Avengers film bringing together the ensemble casts. After a while, though, I started missing pieces. I’ve never seen Captain America: Winter Soldier, nor have I seen Civil War, so I’ve missed every Captain America outing since the original. I haven’t seen any of the Spider-Man movies, nor have I seen any of the Ant-Man movies. Additionally, I missed Guardians of the Galaxy 2. I also missed every single series that came out, including Agents of Shield and Agent Carter. Many of these were lead-ins to the Infinity War/Endgame duology, which were not strictly required to understand what was going on but would’ve been incredibly helpful. Still, having the synopsis of each of the films was enough to get me through, and Endgame felt like a satisfying wrap-up of the Avengers that I “grew up” with.
