Engaging With Someone Fully Whilst Conversing Contributes to Their Mental Health
Giving someone our complete attention whilst talking with them is a way of contributing to their mental health. As well as our own. Don’t we feel dismissed when our nephews, nieces, or someone else is chatting with us but constantly checking their phones and scrolling? I find it rather annoying. It feels as if the person is disrespecting me. Rather dismissing me as not so important. When I’m with my mum, I ensure that I keep my phone aside and engage with her fully. I try to maintain good eye contact with her. I want her to enjoy the completely immersive experience of having interacted with me.It is the moments that remain deep in people’s hearts that foster a sense of healing. And well-being. It is the time that one engages in deep conversations that healing occurs in the body. When we feel seen, heard, and validated by someone we care about deeply. It is the feeling of inter-contentedness that a person feels during a deep conversation that enthuses them. Re-energises them.Even children can tell when their parents are hearing them out but are not listening. They may be physically there but mentally still at their workplace. Children can sense it too.
