Buckle Up

If there’s one thing I love it’s great television shows. When I was younger, being born in the 70’s and being in my youth in the 80’s, great programs were not hard to find. In fact, the major television networks slugged it out week to week in order to win over viewership. There was always something to watch, and great television shows packed the channels every night of the week. The networks were led by the nose by the almighty ratings board and firms like the Nielsen Media Research (NMR) association which measured media audiences, viewership and popularity of television, radio, theatre and films.

Only the biggest T.V. shows would survive to become renewed for another season and some of the best of those went on to become classics in their own right. One of those classics I grew up watching with my late Grandmother was Taxi.Debuting on September 12, 1978, Taxi, became one of the biggest television programs of all time. It’s hard to even imagine that this iconic, multiple-Emmy-winning comedy series ran for only 5 seasons, with 114 episodes. But that indeed was the case for this iconic situational comedy which helped launch the careers of superstars — Danny DeVito, Marilu Henner, Tony Danza, Carol Kane, Andy Kaufman and the legendary Christopher Lloyd and paired them with the already celebrated actors Judd Hirsch, Rhea Perlman and Jeff Conway.
